AVIC BIAM successfully applied graphene materials into Lithium-ion battery


By taking full advantages of graphene nanosheets (GNS), carbon nanotubes and conductive carbon black, the Research Center of Graphene Applications, AVIC Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials (AVIC BIAM) made a breakthrough in the design and preparation technology of conductive graphene-based composites. The center successfully developed conductive slurry with graphene-based composite, featuring ultra-high specific surface area, ultra-strong conductivity, ultra-large quantity of active sites, as well as controllable conductivity and stable performance. This slurry has been successfully employed already as the anode material for realizing Li-ion battery with high energy density and high power density, which has passed material evaluation and verification.

BIAM has achieved batch production of low-cost and high-quality GNS with this proprietary technology. Through adopting a special technology of GNS surface modification and activation, the corrugated and porous structure of graphene can be controlled by BIAM, which plays an important role in the development of graphene-based composite applied in the Li-ion battery.

These kinds of new graphene-based materials in the Li-ion battery would enhance the conductivity of the anode, improve the intercalation/deintercalation properties of Li+ ion and reduce the performance-loss at low temperature, as well as upgrade Li-ion battery industry and clean energy battery industry.
